General information about the system.

In today's world, data is key asset companies. Data about company activities is generated by various participants production activities. The analysis and use of accumulated data is of exceptional value.

The Auchan BI system is designed to provide users with access to analytics based on accumulated data for the purpose of decision-making. The system consists of kernel and application components. The system core components are designed to solve the following tasks

  1. Collection of structured and unstructured data on schedule and online from various heterogeneous information systems
  2. Long-term storage of accumulated data in storage and data marts
  3. Transformation of data according to flexible customizable rules taking into account business requirements
  4. Organizing the required interfaces (APIs) for visual data visualization applications
  5. Ensuring secure user and system access to data warehouses and data marts

The BI system also includes data access applications. Applications use core components of the BI system to organize secure, fast and reliable access for end users to the accumulated array of information through standard system interfaces. Applications are the window through which users view data and analytics. All applications that work with the BI system are divided into two large categories.

History of the development of the system. Main Stages

The history of the development of the Auchan business intelligence system goes back 10 years and includes several periods

  1. Period 2006-2008. Beginning of system development. Sales data collection. Implementation of BI applications Performance and Publisher and basic reports in stores, COP, Marketing
  2. Period 2009-2011. Formation of the system. Collection of advanced data on commerce processes for stores and public health centers, creation of Needs and Extranet applications. Establishing data quality services and processes
  3. Period 2012-2014. System improvement. Implementation of a modern virtual platform to ensure the required accessibility indicators in connection with the company's growth. Implementation of master data control processes (BPM Workflow) based on the modern Adobe Livecycle BPM solution. Creation of an international BI EE solution and the beginning of its implementation in Ukraine and Romania
  4. Period 2015-2016. Further expansion of data volumes through indicators of commerce, HR and finance. Implementations modern system calculating indicators based on business rules - Margin Management / Rupture applications. Implementation of the advanced Oracle Exadata analytics platform. Beginning of implementation of the Big Data concept - streaming data on sales and commerce indicators.

It is important to note that the development of the BI system in the initial periods of 2006-2012 was largely determined by the balance of opportunities for purchasing licensed technologies and requirements for integrating systems and users. Thus, before entering into an agreement on the unlimited use of Oracle BI technologies in 2012, Auchan largely used applications and modules created by our company in order to reduce the cost of system ownership. A list of BI software components and software vendors is provided in the table at the end of this document.

System structure. Main components of the system core

As mentioned above, the main components of a BI system are the system core and applications. The BI system core provides a number of basic services for applications. Data storage and aggregation subsystems

This subsystem is an instance of the Oracle database. The Oracle database was chosen by Auchan as a standard and is used for structuring and storing information. A separate Oracle database module is used to build aggregate data marts. The subsystem provides access to stored information through standard Oracle OCI APIs

Data loading and transformation subsystems

This subsystem is a complex environment consisting of modules that serve to perform data processing tasks. The subsystem answers everything modern requirements and allows you to perform batch and operational (online) integration and data transformation

BI system - open system, therefore it is possible to use any data transformation modules of arbitrary vendors. In order to reduce cost and increase reliability, today only 4 types of transformation modules are used. Each module of the system, in turn, has an environment for process design, execution and configuration of transformation processes.

  1. The Oracle Warehouse Builder module is a package integration module from Oracle of the 2000 generation. Documentation for the module can be obtained

Subsystem for modeling and catalog of indicators

This subsystem is quite new in the BI system. The subsystem solves the problem of building a federated catalog of indicators, as well as providing a standard API for Oracle report design tools such as Oracle Visual Analyzer and Oracle Dashboards. The catalog of indicators is available in the subsystem in visual form. The subsystem appeared recently due to the high cost of licensing this component. Only thanks to the conclusion of the ULA agreement it became possible to perform modeling of indicator catalogs in this system

Performance app

The BI Performance app is designed specifically for stores. Available using Chrome browsers/Internet Explorer. It provides users with a fast, simple and easy-to-use interface to view key indicators by Sales, Inventory, Margin, Loss Write-offs and Ruptures. The application allows you to group analytics by different periods, compare product groups and stores

Publisher Application

BI Publisher was designed to produce complex reports with many parameters. Available using Chrome/Internet Explorer browsers. Initially, it was used only by qualified users, but then the range of users increased. The application allows you to virtually generate any report in any format on a schedule or immediately. Supports complex parameter forms. Provides ID and data access control. Today, more than 200 different reports have been created and used in the system

Workflow app

The Workflow application is designed to provide transparency to key master data management business processes. This allowed:

  • Define and measure KPIs for master data management processes;
  • Establish correspondence between KPIs and company business rules;
  • Provide analytics regarding the business activities of company employees;
  • In combination with BI receive necessary analytics when making a decision;
  • Speed ​​up processing times;

At the moment, all processes of working with articles and tariffs (purchase prices) are automated, namely:

Extranet Application

The BI Extranet application was created specifically to provide secure access to data for Auchan counterparties. It is also used by factor banks and suppliers to access analytics on mutual settlements. The application provides a counterparty account, is accessible via the Internet and allows you to generate reports of any complexity, both in batch and online. The visual interface capabilities of the Adobe Flex environment allow you to generate any visualization. The application today allows you to install more than 26 different reports with financial and commercial indicators. Security settings allow you to control access to data and reports, manage subscriptions, and audit user actions

The BI Cockpit application is a new application created after the Auchan-Retail merger for the purpose of analyzing data on the results of the activities of the consolidated company. The application creates a federated catalog of Auchan-Retail sales indicators, receives data in streaming mode from cash register systems and provides analytics on any mobile device and your work computer via the Internet.
