Enable mobile internet windows background. Using Windows Phone as a modem to access the Internet

Articles and Lifehacks

At the moment, a smartphone without access to the network seems to be a completely useless device. That is why such a topic as setting up the Internet on Windows Phone 8 remains invariably relevant.

Unfortunately, not everyone still knows how to properly configure their device, and thereby begin to fully take advantage of its capabilities and functions.

Internet setup

  1. As a rule, it is enough to go to a special section of the Marketplace and find suitable program, then install it and reboot the mobile device.
  2. So, for devices from Samsung, the Network Profile application is suitable (you can find it in Zone), for Nokia Lumia you can download Nokia Network Setup (via Collection), and HTC owners should install Connection Setup (via Apps).
  3. If this does not help, you will have to enter all the settings manually. To do this, find the “Data transfer” item and select the option that allows you to add a new access point.
  4. Each cellular operator offers to enter certain unique data here. After entering, the mobile device restarts and the Internet should start working.
Of course, it is very good if the user has the opportunity to surf on a Wi-Fi network. You just need to activate this function. But what if you can only use mobile Internet?

How not to make a mistake when entering an access point? Let's try to figure it out.

How to register an access point

  1. When you call support, you can try to get automatic settings from your mobile operator. The telephone number of the call center can be easily found on the official website of the service provider, or you can find out from a specialist at the nearest communication store.
  2. If the settings never arrived (or you can’t save them), they should be registered manually. As already mentioned, this can be done through a special option in the “Data transfer” item.
  3. Here you usually specify not only the access point itself (or APN), but also the user name and password. Often the latter parameters are the same.
  4. The password and username of the Beeline operator are written like this: beeline. The same applies to MTS and MTS Belarus (mts).
  5. Operators Life and Megafon suggest leaving these two fields blank. If we use TELE 2, we also do not need to fill them out.
  6. Now let's move on to the access point. If the operator is MTS, it is written like this: internet.mts.ru. In a similar way, it is prescribed for Beeline (internet.beeline.ru) and TELE 2 (internet.tele2.ru).
  7. The Life operator's APN point looks slightly different (internet.life.com.by). If we use MTS Belarus, we simply enter mts. If the operator is Megafon - internet.
After the settings are set, we try to use the Internet using any in a convenient way. Also, do not forget to activate the data transfer function over the mobile network.

For the Windows Phone operating system, I have already opened a special one on this site. This is the third article in this section, and in it I will write about how to set up Internet distribution via Wi-Fi on a phone that runs on Windows Phone 8 (there is no official update to Windows Phone 8.1 yet, as soon as it appears, I will edit the article if there are changes in the setting public access to the Internet).

After a few days of using the Windows Phone, I really like this mobile system. This is something new and fresh, compared to Android, which I’m just tired of. Now, we will turn Windows Phone 8 into a real one Wi-Fi router. Let’s set up Internet distribution in the mobile operating system from Microsoft, this function is called “ Shared Internet”.

Honestly, I really liked the way this feature is done in Windows Phone 8. It's simple and everything works like a charm, compared to HTC One V (Android 4.0). I think that the “Internet Sharing” function looks the same on all phones with Windows Phone 8. I will show the example of the Nokia Lumia 925.

We will just need to turn on mobile internet (data transfer). You can use 2G, 3G and even 4G networks. It all depends on your phone, provider and coverage. Next, in the “Internet Sharing” section, just enable the function, set the network name and password for it. And that’s it, our phone will distribute the Internet, which it will take from the mobile provider. You can connect others mobile devices, tablets, laptops, TVs, etc.

And now more details.

Windows Phone 8 phone as a Wi-Fi router

First, you need to enable data transfer. Simply put, you need to turn on mobile Internet if it is turned off. Go to settings (while on the desktop, swipe left and select “Settings” from the list). Next we look for the item “ data transfer“, go into it and select “ included“. Below, you can specify the fastest 2G or 3G connection.

Attention, for using the mobile Internet, the operator can withdraw money. Sometimes, not a small amount of money. Check with your operator for the tariff at which you can access the Internet. Now, operators offer inexpensive tariffs, for example, with payment per day.

When the Internet starts working, the corresponding icon should appear on the notification panel.

A window will appear in which you need to change the name of the Wi-Fi network that the phone will broadcast and the password for this network. Or you can leave the data that has already been provided. Click on the “ ready“.

That's it, our phone on Windows Phone 8 already broadcasts the Wi-Fi network, you can connect other devices to it. You can connect no more than 8 devices at the same time. This is quite enough (on Android, maximum 5 devices). By the way, you will know that shared Wi-Fi access to the mobile Internet is enabled by the icon that will appear on the notification panel.

To connect, simply select from the list of available networks (on the device you want to connect to the internet), the network we created, and enter the password, which can be found in the “general Internet” section.

On a laptop, it will look something like this:

Read about how to connect an Android device. Oh, I wrote the same thing.

To stop sharing the Internet, simply turn off this function in the “shared Internet” section.

By the way, you can set a mobile Internet limit, for example, per day, and the phone will warn you when the limit runs out. This way, you can save yourself from additional expenses. After all, Internet over the limit, as a rule, is not cheap.

This is all done there, in the settings. Just swipe left to go to the “ tab applications“. Select “ data control“. Click on the “ set a limit“, and follow the instructions.

A very useful feature that can be useful not only when setting up general Internet access, but also when using the mobile Internet on your phone normally.

In modern life, the Internet has become closely integrated into our lives; the user always needs constant access to online information, mail and social communication. Therefore, after purchasing a smartphone based on the Windows Phone operating system, probably one of the first things you need to do is set up the Internet and so let’s get started.

How to set up Internet on Windows Phone OS

The whole procedure is not difficult. But for some reason it often raises a lot of questions, let’s break it down. Everything will take you no more than 5 minutes.

The first thing you need to do is go to the “Settings” section and go to the “Access Point” item (usually it is at the very bottom). Then select “Add” and enter the technical data for your operator.

Below are the settings of the main operators for Russia. All settings have been checked and if any change, we will update them in our article. In this order, access point (APN), username and password. The “-” sign means that we leave the field empty.

For example, here is a screenshot for the Megafon operator; this setting is easy to make because you don’t need to enter anything additional except the dot itself :)

After entering the Internet settings in Windows Phone, in the “data transfer” mode, select enabled, and in the item 3G fast connection. Then we select save and test the Internet in any convenient browser.

If the Internet does not work, reboot the device. That's all, if you have any additional questions, write them in the comments.

It’s hard to even think about and imagine your smartphone (for example, Dell Venue Pro, HTC Arrive, HTC 7 Pro, HTC HD7, HTC HD7S, HTC Mozart, HTC Surround, HTC Trophy, HTC Titan, HTC Titan II, HTC Radar, Nokia Lumia 610, Nokia Lumia 710, Nokia Lumia 800, Nokia Lumia 900, LG Optimus 7, LG Quantum, Samsung Focus, Samsung Omnia 7, Samsung Focus Flash, Samsung Focus S, Samsung Omnia W) without working Internet, which makes it possible to realize a large share of the device’s capabilities on Windows Phone. Therefore, if you become the proud owner of a Windows Phone phone, first set up the Internet on it. Of course, you can try to get automatic settings from your operator, but often they either don’t arrive at all, or they can’t be saved, so it’s best to do the settings right away and manually. Setting up the Internet is actually not that difficult and the whole procedure will take literally 5 minutes . First, you need to go to the “Settings” menu and almost at the very bottom find the “Access Point” item, which you need to go into. Surely you will already have some access points there, but it’s better to just “Add” a new one, since the standard ones often don’t work.

You can use the settings below. they were all tested, and some were added by our users and were also tested to work. No problems were found.

As an example, I’ll show you how these settings look on and, the Megafon operator is very convenient in that you don’t need to enter anything else except the access point itself!

You need to first select “Enabled” in the “Data transfer” mode, and after that select “3G” in the “Fastest connection” option. Once you save all the settings, try loading one page into Internet Explorer on your phone, or test the Internet in any way. If it doesn't work, reboot the device.
